Biography
Lesley Gomez
Lesley Gomez left England at 22 to serve as a missionary in the Philippines. Today she and her husband Peter run LAMA, a charity and safe house for the abandoned boys of the streets.
REUNITING WITH PARENTS
We do everything possible to obtain Birth Certificates. and to locate parents, or any existing relatives of lost boys and re-unite them where possible. It rarely is possible but with God’s help we have had some wonderful success.
LIFE SKILLS AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Additional training, such as cell-phone repair, driving, farming skills, auto repair and others are provided for older boys in preparation for independent living. Three of LAMA boys have gone on to work as house-fathers/care-givers in another children’s home ministry.
INDEPENDENT LIVING
The emphasis in the home is not on ‘clients’ and ‘programs’ but the security and commitment of an extended family – for life. We continue to help ‘our boys’ long after they leave the home to marry and have children of their own. Many come home to LAMA for Christmas and holidays
EVACUATION CENTER
LAMA House is a designated evacuation center in times of disaster, such as floods, earthquakes or typhoons. Around 20 typhoons devastate parts of the Philippines each year. There are also frequent earthquakes and floods.
MINISTRY TO THE POOR
An important part of our work is bringing the Kingdom of God to families who live in poverty We do this through practical support, by teaching Bible studies, praying for the sick and children’s outreaches.
